IBM Watson Is Tackling Medicine's Most Complex Problems at Pfizer, Medtronic, and Quest Diagnostics

Some of the biggest companies in medicine are enlisting IBM to help solve medicine's toughest problems with Watson Artificial Intelligence.
  • IBM Watson for Drug Discovery and Pfizer are collaborating in the area of immunotherapy, which uses the body's own immune system to help fight cancer. Watson ingested 25 million Medline abstracts, over one million medical journal articles, data from 4 million patients, and every drug patent since 1861.
  • Medtronic is working with IBM Watson "to develop a new generation of personalized diabetes management solutions." Using a combination of electronic medical records, health insurance records, and population data, the companies were looking to develop real-time personalized care.
  • IBM and Quest Diagnostics developed a service that combined Watson's cognitive computing with genomic tumor sequencing and oncology diagnostics to launch IBM Watson Genomics from Quest Diagnostics.
