What are McDonald's growth pillars for the future?
To maintain its long-term success, the company has committed to three core growth pillars:
-
Maximize Their Marketing: Today's consumers choose McDonald's because of brand trust, great taste, and value. While McDonald's wants to remain committed to these reasons, they also want to bring attention to their mission of feeding and fostering communities.
-
Commit to the Core: 70% of McDonald's sales stem form their fan favorites—beef and chicken. The company will remain committed to these favorites by enhancing them. McDonald's sees growth opportunities with their McCafé. Here, they hope to increase brand awareness and boost morning visits for coffee.
- Double Down on the 4 D's: As consumer needs continually change, McDonald's wants to fulfill them by committing to Digital, Delivery, Drive-Thru, and Restaurant Development.
Which divisions of the company will McDonald's layoffs impact?
McDonald's closed its offices the first week of April, announcing layoffs that will impact hundreds of employees. While much is still unknown at this time, this move comes as part of an overall restructuring of the organization.
NPR reports that given the current job climate and the shortage of workers in the fast-food industry, McDonald's is not making cuts on the restaurant front. Rather, roles are being eliminated on the corporate side.
In January, Kempczinski sent a memo to employees notifying them of the impending changes: “We will evaluate roles and staffing levels in parts of the organization and there will be difficult discussions and decisions ahead...certain initiatives will be de-prioritized or stopped altogether. This will help us move faster as an organization, while reducing our global costs and freeing up resources to invest in our growth.”
Following these changes, McDonald's will shift their focus to speeding up restaurant openings, especially in many of its high-growth markets.
